Author  Events for Fall, 2009

I’m delighted to have co-hosted with Greenwood’s Bookshoppe a great series of author events over the past few months, especially as we all celebrated Greenwoods’ 30th anniversary!  The fall events are over, but as you can see from the list, below, we had a terrific collection of exceptional writers.

Now here’s some big news for this spring!

Conni Massing -- March 11

Award-winning Edmonton author and playwright, Conni Massing, will launch her terrific new book at Greenwoods’ on Thursday, March 11th.  Roadtripping: On the Move with the Buffalo Gals, one of the funniest books I've read in a while, is Conni’s memoir of a group of ten called the Buffalo Gals
who over the last ten years have gone on a road trip through the lesser known parts of Alberta.  They begin at the Torrington Gopher Museum and set the tempo for beef and bacon (yup, everywhere they go, eating is high on the list of activities!) and in future years hit the Pyroghy Trail (complete with photos of the Mundare sausage, the Vegreville Easter Egg, and the St.Paul UFO Landing pad), the Intolerance Tour (Eckville, Caroline) and many more fascinating stops. Oh, and they're not all girls who hop into their van and reinvent the classic road trip.  Pure Alberta fun!   So be sure to join us!

Thursday, March 11th @ 7:00 pm

Greenwoods’ Bookshoppe, 7925 104 Street

Yann Martel -- April 30th

Booker Prize-winning author Yann Martel who is set to release his long-awaited third novel, Beatrice & Virgil, on April 6 will join us for a very special evening on Friday April 30th!  His Life of Pi, which won the 2002 Man Booker Prize,
sold over 700,000 copies in Canada and 7 million copies around the world.
“Yann Martel’s fiction is always ambitious, always fascinating, always a great pleasure to discover and re-discover,” said Knopf Canada publisher Diane Martin in a statement. “No one will ever forget Pi Patel and his lifeboat mate Richard Parker as they engage in a mutual dance of survival through many months at sea. There are some books one simply must talk about after reading. His new novel – one that flashes and shines like the rarest of gems – is, again, definitely one of those. I look forward to hearing and taking part in the many conversations that will result when Beatrice & Vir
gil is published.”

Co-sponsored by Laurie’s Book Company and

Greenwoods’ Bookshoppe,

the Yann Martel event will take place on

Friday, April 30 beginning at 7:00 pm at the

Oldtimers Cabin (9430 99 Street).

Tickets are on sale at Greenwoods; be sure to get yours early!
